First steps

The first step is always the most difficult.

This page will give you step-by-step instructions for the basic program functionality.

 

How do I search for items on eBay?
Follow these steps to find items on eBay:
  1. In the query pane, select query type iconSearch Online.
  2. Select the auction site and the category where you want to search for items. Make sure that the selected category was added to the query history.

    Select eBay USA, if you do not know the category where the desired items are listed. This way, Munnin will find all items that have been listed at eBay USA.

    If you want to search for international items, select category eBay worldwide.

  3. Enter your search words. You can enter multiple search words, separated by spaces.
    You can also search for exact phrases, by putting several words in double quotes. Example: "Lord of the rings".
    A wildcard search can be performed using the asterix. Example: new* will find all items containing words starting with "new": new, newer, newest, etc.
  4. The Go button will start your search query and retrieve the first result page.
  5. Afterwards you can navigate in the result pages using the navigation pane.

How can I extend my search query?

If you have not found the correct items or your search only returned a few items you should check the following points:


icon Try finding more items by searching the item description.
icon If you have searched a subcategory, try repeating the search in one of the parent categories or on all eBay (eBay USA).
icon Try using different (more general) search words or search for phrases or do a wildcard search.
Extended The extended search parameters allow you to refine your search (searching for any word, etc.).

How can I refine my search query?

If your search returned too many items you should refine your search parameters:


icon To find the correct items you should always search the matching category.
There are several ways you can use to find the correct category::
  • Try to find a matching category in the category tree.

    If a previous search returned items you are looking for, you can display the category where the item was listed using the tree button.

    Important: This category will not be added to the query history automatically. If you want to repeat your search query in this category, you first have to activate it in the category tree.

    Start searching all of eBay.

    After the first result page was loaded, you can use the Subcategories button. It will display a list of subcategories where items have been found. Select a category and repeat the search.

icon Try using more search words (separated by spaces) that describe the items you are looking for.
OR
Try finding alternative search words.
icon Exclude words from your search.
Only items containing none of the words you enter in field without will be returned.
Extended The advanced search lets you specify additional search parameters.

How do I browse the eBay categories?
Follow these steps to retrieve all items of a specific category:
  1. In the query pane, select query type iconCategory Online
  2. Select the auction site and the category you want to browse. Make sure that the selected category was added to the query history.
  3. The Go button will retrieve the first page.
  4. Afterwards you can navigate in the result pages using the navigation pane.

How do I browse items in the local database?
Munnin stores all retrieved items in a local Access database.
You can browse these items even if your computer is not connected to the internet.
  1. In the query pane, select query type iconCategory Database.
  2. Select the auction site and the category you want to browse. Make sure that the selected category was added to the query history.

    Note: Selecting category eBay USA will display all items listed at eBay USA. If you want to see all items listed at eBay worldwide, select eBay worldwide.

  3. Using the query parameters you can define what kind of items you want to see:
    Finished Displays only items that have ended.
    All All items in the selected category will be shown.
    Running Displays only items not finished yet.
